Our response

We collect figures from 1 April – 31 March. Therefore, the most recent figures we can supply for no. 3&4 are 10 months (1 April – 31 January)

1. 50,358 on 1 February 2023.

2. An active user is someone who has borrowed at least one book or used a library computer and online resources such as an e-book in the last 12 months.

3. From 1 April – 31  January 21,987 new books were purchased (10 months). This figure does not include e-books and e-audio books.

4. From 1 April 2022 – 31 January 2023 12,121 (10 months)

5. On 1 February 2023 689,988

6. & 7: Average expected lifespan of hardback book: this is not something that we average anymore. We aim to replace a book on average within 9.8 years. A very popular paperback may only last for 18 months if it gets a high level of use. Some hardback which have short print runs and cannot be replaced will be kept indefinitely.
