Your request & our response

1. Does your authority use its council housing (directly managed or through Arms-Length arrangement) as temporary accommodation for homeless households?

Yes

2. If the answer to the above is 'yes', how many council-owned homes are currently used for this purpose and how many have been used in this way over each of the last three financial years?

31/03/2020        249

31/03/2021        270

31/03/2022        268

14/04/2022        276

3. If council housing is used as temporary accommodation, what is the average period for which a home is/has been used in this way i.e. a) how long has each council home been used in this way and b) what is the average length of stay for each family living in council housing being used as temporary accommodation?

Please note we are unable to say how long each individual home has been used as temporary accommodation but can confirm that 20 units occupied on 14/04/2022 have been in use since May 2016.

There are 276 households in occupation today and they have spent an average of 32.15 months in their current accommodation.

4. If council housing is used for temporary accommodation, what is the average rent charged and how many tenants receive full Housing Benefit?

Average rent charged for council-owned properties is £124.58 pw, and 96 are in receipt of full Housing Benefit.

5. What was the total amount of rent and service charge charged/received by the Council for temporary accommodation in Council housing stock, for each of the past three financial years?

We do not have any reports that separate Council Housing Stock used as Temporary Accommodation from the other Temporary Accommodation types we use on total rent charged and rent received for Temporary Accommodation so we are unable to provide a response to this.
