Your request
I am requesting information regarding unnecessary engine idling. Please may I receive data on the below:
- The number of reports made since 2017 for engine idling broken down by month if possible
- The type of vehicle (e.g. Coach, family car) idling
- The amount of fines issued, broken down by month if possible
- The amount of fines paid, broken down by month if possible
Our response
- The number of reports made since 2017 for engine idling broken down by month if possible
Please see attached. The data shows where Officers recorded a vehicle idling and requested that they turn off the engine or move on. Some of these may have come from reports made to the council but we are unable to differentiate.
Please note enforcement of idling started in Lambeth in March 2020, so the recording of instances of idling and requests to turn off the engine or move on stopped.
- The type of vehicle (e.g Coach, family car) idling
I can confirm that Lambeth Council does not hold the information requested. Regulation 12(4)(a) of the EIR states that a public authority may refuse to disclose information to the extent that it does not hold that information when an applicant’s request is received.
I am advised by my colleagues that Lambeth Council does not hold any such information because information on type of vehicle is not collected.
- The amount of fines issued, broken down by month if possible
- The amount of fines paid, broken down by month if possible
The data provided below was between 01/01/2017 and 31/01/2023 from the following databases:
FPN Database – The Road Traffic (Vehicle Emissions) Regulations 2002
PCN Database – Contravention 63 - Parked with engine running where prohibited
