Brixton Orchard is a community green space on Brixton Hill, directly opposite Lambeth Town Hall, which is managed by the Brixton Business Improvement District (BID) and cared for with the help of local volunteers. The Orchard is home to over 30 fruit trees, as well as a range of edible planting and biodiversity-focused projects. The BID supports the ongoing maintenance and development of the Orchard, with a focus on creating a welcoming, biodiverse space for the local community.
The BID runs regular volunteer gardening sessions, which are free and open to everyone. No previous gardening experience is needed, and all tools, equipment and guidance are provided. Volunteers can get involved in general orchard maintenance, planting, weeding and seasonal projects, while learning new skills, meeting others and contributing to a local community green space.
They also offer group and corporate volunteering opportunities, which can involve larger projects and activities tailored to the needs of the group.
