How it works
- Speak to your neighbours and fill out the neighbourhood support form (see How to apply to download the form). If you are not applying for the parklet outside your house, get the explicit consent of the residents whose house it will go outside.
- Apply for the opportunity to create and maintain a parklet.
- The parklet location will be assessed by the Big Shift team for its suitability.
- Suitable locations will be taken to statutory consultation.
- Approved location applicants will choose from a catalogue of items to design their parklet within a budget.
- We will build the parklet on your chosen street.
- You will keep the parklet clean, tidy and well maintained for your community.
- The council will be responsible for any major maintenance or repairs that may be required.
Successful applicants will be allocated a ‘virtual’ budget to build a parklet from the Big Shift catalogue.
All parklets will have:
- a base
- two side barriers
- an outer barrier on the roadside.
The allocated budget can be used for optional extras such as:
- seating
- cycle parking
- tables
- planting
