Construction began in February and is scheduled to be completed in May 2020. The Decision Report for this project, including the preliminary design drawings, can be found on Baylis road cycling improvements.

Project updates
20 May, 2020
The scheme is now mostly complete. The final phase, to resurface all of the road in new asphalt, will take place at night time between Thursday 28 May and Wednesday 10 June. Works will be start at 8pm and continue until around 5am. No works will take place on Saturday or Sunday nights. It is necessary to undertake these works at night because we need to close the road to all traffic, including bicycles. Signed diversions will be in place. After 10 June, Baylis Road will be fully reopened to traffic in both directions.

Works on site have continued during the coronavirus (Covid-19) lock down so that crucial safe space for walking and cycling can be delivered by the start of June, in line with the council’s emergency plans to reduce road danger and coronavirus transmission. Working days have been reduced to Mon-Fri only, to limit disruption to local residents.
Construction of the future proofed utilities trench trunk is almost complete. New drainage, cycle segregation and a floating bus island will be built on top of this section between Frazier and Murphy Streets in the coming weeks. Installation of the infrastructure that will deliver fibre broadband directly to households is also being built now.
The bus stop outside Tesco is currently suspended. North bound passengers can use the new bus stop at Lower Marsh. Both north bound stops will be operational from 22 May.
From 11 to 15 May, Baylis Road will be closed to motor traffic in both directions between Westminster Bridge Road and Lower Marsh, to enable construction of new refuge islands in the centre of the road. North bound buses will be on diversion.
The final phase, to resurface the road and new cycle lanes will take place at the start of June. More information about these works will be provided soon.
10 March, 2020
Works have moved to the west side of the carriageway, where a trench is being constructed to house new electrical and communications ducts. Cycle segregation will then be built on top of this. The North bound bus stop at Lower Marsh will be suspended until the 17 April. A closure of Frazier Street, at the west side of the junction with Baylis Road will take place for one week within April. Advance warning signs will advise of the exact date.
8 February, 2020
Baylis Road has been temporarily closed to south-bound motor vehicles. Traffic travelling south, including buses, is diverting down Waterloo Road. Safe access for cycles is maintained in both directions. South bound 59 bus is diverting via Waterloo Road and Lambeth Road so will not be stopping at the Lower Marsh or Lambeth North Stops. The nearest stop to catch the 59 on diversion is outside The Old Vic (Stop S).
North bound buses are stopping on Baylis Road as usual during the first phase of works. Access to Spur Road and Lower Marsh to/from Waterloo Road will be maintained.
