Dr Mahamed Hashi
Dr Mahamed Hashi is Founder of New Beginnings Youth Provision.
"In 2013, I created a youth organisation called New Beginnings Youth Provision.
New Beginnings is a youth organisation that focuses primarily on helping young people exit gang life style. This is done by developing the participants key life skills so that they can progress positively and are equipped with the basic tools needed to succeed in the "real world".
These programs aim to empower young people so that they feel that they have a choice in relation to their future as well as prepare them to successfully engage on the appropriate educational, vocational or work course. This means that I have had to build and maintain a fantastic relationship with a huge number of organisations locally who can provide a cascade of different provisions.
Some of these relationships have led me to representing the organisation as well as the community in a number of forums both locally and nationally. This allows me to better understand the issues affecting young people as well as the practitioners and organisations that support them. This also gives me the ability to be able to influence policy makers and advise them according to my experience.
I am actively involved in the following community groups in varying capacities.
These groups include:
- The Lambeth Safer Neighbourhood Board (Deputy Chair)
- the Lambeth Community Police Consultative Group (CPCG)
- the Lambeth Stop and Search Monitoring Group (Co-Chair)
- Chair of the Pan-London Stop and Search Community Monitoring Network (City Hall)
- Stop Search Strategic Scrutiny Group (College of Policing)
- Deaths in custody panel
- Independent Custody Visitors for Lambeth
- London Probation Trust
- Serious Group Offending Non Governmental Organisation Forum
- Community Network Forum (Chair)
- Territorial Support Group Community reference group (New Scotland Yard)
- Public Order Reference Group (New Scotland Yard)
- Trident Independent Advisory Group (New Scotland Yard)
- the Independent Advisory Group for Lambeth police.
I am also currently involved in the Black Mental Health Commission in Lambeth as the community lead."
