Accessibility statement for Lambeth Council’s Careers website

This accessibility statement applies to Lambeth Borough Council’s Careers website.

The careers website is run by Lambeth Borough Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings.
  • Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen.
  • Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software.
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and Voiceover).

We’ve made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Non-accessible content

Some content on this site does not comply fully with accessibility standards.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Known issues are summarised below. If you find additional accessibility issues not listed below, or in our accessibility test results report (XLSX 17KB) , then please contact us at webteam@lambeth.gov.uk .

  1. Some of our documents are non-HTML formats, for example PDF. They do not meet accessibility standards in a number of ways including not having a PDF title, which fails the WCAG success criterion 2.4.2 - Page Titled (A).

  2. Some touch targets are less than 24px large, and do not have sufficient space.
This fails the WCAG success criteria 2.5.8 – Target Size (A),

  3. The purpose of each link cannot always be determined from the link text alone nor from the link text together with its programmatically determined link context,.
This fails the WCAG success criteria 2.4.4  -Link Purpose (A)

  4. Elements on some pages are not using allowed ARIA attributes.
This fails the WCAG success criteria 1.3.1 - Info and Relationships (A), as well as 4.1.2 - Name, Role, Value (A)

  5. Some pages contain ARIA dialogs without accessible names. Screen reader users are not able to discern the purpose of elements with role="dialog" or role="alertdialog" that do not have accessible names.
This fails the following WCAG success criteria 1.3.1 - Info and Relationships (A)

  6. Some pages contain top level ‘Landmarks’ that are nested within other ‘Landmarks’.  If a top-level landmark is contained within another landmark, it can prevent screen reader users from being able to easily find their way around the layout.
This fails the WCAG success criteria 2.4.1 - Bypass Blocks (Level A)

Disproportionate burden

We have not made any disproportionate burden claims at this point in time.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We have recently upgraded the careers site to address a number of non-accessible content issues and we will continuously review it to identify and remedy issues that are found.

The careers site is provided by a third party supplier ( Oracle ), and we are working with them to resolve the identified accessibility issues and make the site more accessible for all users.
