The Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP) scheme helps people who need more financial help with their housing costs. We can pay DHP on top of your normal Housing Benefit.
Discretionary Housing Payment is not available to help meet Council Tax costs anymore. DHPs are not benefits - they are separate payments we can make at our discretion. We have a limited amount of money for DHP so not all claims are successful.
A lump sum DHP cannot be awarded to clear rent arrears as so many applications made are purely for this purpose and have to be refused.
