Lambeth Council has begun making improvements to Rush Common Woodland Walk, which is vital for fitness and play for many people who live nearby in flats, particularly on adjoining St Matthews Estate.

The completed works include; the revitalisation and extension of the children's play area and the first tranche of tree planting.

Following our public consultation in 2019, we reviewed your feedback, produced a report of priorities and have been working closely with local Councillors and the St Matthews Estate TRA (SMETRA) to carry these forwards.

We are grateful for funding from grant funders: GLA Greener City Fund, and the London Marathon Charitable Trust, which was then added to a capital investment from S106. St Matthews Estate TRA was also awarded a DHCLG Pocket Parks grant towards planting and play here.

Next steps

Our next steps to improve the outdoor space include, tree planting and a tree trail, a natural play trail, new picnic benches and games tables, volunteer planting, and a new wildflower meadow.

We hope to have a small launch event for the project in May 2021 when all works should be complete, if not affected by covid-19 restrictions.
