Breathe Arts Health Research

Breathe Arts Health Research are world leaders in combining creativity and scientific research to co-design programmes that meet the health and wellbeing needs of our local community.

This project aims to provide support and connection for new mothers with babies aged 0 to 9 months in Brixton and Stockwell, who are experiencing postnatal depression or low-mood.

Breathe Melodies for Mums is a free, 10-week group singing programme that is proven by research to improve mental health and wellbeing, increase mother-baby bonding and improve social infrastructure and connection.

Sessions are a ‘nursery rhyme free zone’ and led by a professional singing lead teaching simple songs in a range of different languages, building confidence and connection through rounds and harmonies. There is no pressure to talk about your feelings in the group, and no prior experience of singing is required.

This is a unique, supportive and empowering approach that puts mothers at the heart - experience the joy of singing together with others facing similar challenges in new motherhood.

The project also aims to expand Breathe’s network of Mum Ambassadors in Brixton and Stockwell. Paid and voluntary opportunities will be available including peer-support and content creation sharing their experience with others, promoting access to the programme.
