Empathy Museum, Friends of Windrush Square, Photofusion, Black Cultural Archives, and Born or Made

This consortium of local organisations is producing Windrush Untold Stories, an exhibition initiated by Ros Griffiths and launched in Brixton’s Windrush Square on 22 June 2025.

The exhibition is part of the 3rd Annual Big Caribbean Lunch and honours the legacy of the Windrush Generation.

Running for 3 weeks, the exhibition will be free and accessible to the public. It will feature large-scale portraits of Windrush elders and their descendants, each accompanied by audio recordings sharing their lived experiences and reflections on community and belonging. These stories will also be available in an online gallery, and the recordings will be archived by Black Cultural Archives for research and educational use.

As part of the project, Photofusion will mentor 2 local young photographers, whose work will be exhibited in its gallery.

Windrush Untold Stories aims to celebrate the depth and diversity of Brixton’s Caribbean heritage, engaging new audiences in this shared local history and bringing fresh meaning to our town square - a space for memory, pride, and connection.
