Lambeth Council aims to increase canopy cover across the borough and aim to plant 5000 trees between 2022 and 2026. Regrettably though, there are instances where we need to fell trees. Most street trees are felled because they are dead, irreparably damaged (for example by vehicle collisions) or decaying to the point where they are structurally unsound. Lambeth Council is consulting on the Revised Draft Lambeth Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) as part of a two-stage process. The SPD will assist property owners and designers to deliver high quality design outcomes for all development. This second stage consultation runs from 08 July to 02 September 2022. The Black Lives Matter protests during 2020 led to new momentum behind long-standing concerns about statues, memorials and street names with associations with the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.  This is a community conversation, together we want to develop proposals on how to deal with this difficult aspect of our history.
