Fixed penalty notices for environmental offences

Use this guide to find out more about fixed penalty notices for environmental offences.

We have a zero tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour of any kind and will issue fixed penalty notices (FPNs) to those committing environmental or highway offences.

Environmental crimes can have a negative impact on the lives of our citizens in the borough.

New measures have been introduced since the introduction of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005. This allows local councils to fine anyone committing an environmental crime that damages the street scene.

Our enforcement team patrol the borough on a daily basis to ensure that our streets are kept clean and safe, and can issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) for a wide range of offences including:

  • littering
  • dog fouling
  • unlicensed scaffolding and skips
  • pavement and road obstructions
  • abandoned vehicles
  • vehicles for sale on the highway
  • vehicles being repaired on the highway.
  • Anti-Idling -vehicle emissions

We will also issues FPNs for failure to comply with terms and conditions of licences for scaffolding and skips.

Our officers are trained to carry out enforcement in the borough and to promote our ambition for cleaner, greener and safer neighbourhoods.
