Taking action on empty and void homes

Report an empty home and find out how we are taking action to bring them back into use

Report an empty home

If you think there is an empty property in your area, you can report this to us. It might be empty if:

  • the windows have been broken for a long time
  • post has not been collected
  • windows and doors have been boarded up
  • the rooms are always in darkness.

Report a privately owned empty property

Please only report privately owned empty properties using the link below. If you wish to report an empty property that is owned by the Council or a Housing Association, please click the link under the heading Report a council-owned empty property.

Please provide as much information as possible about the property, including a full address.

Additional details on length of time empty and the severity of detriment to the local area are welcome. This information will help us to identify what action is needed.

Report a council-owned empty property

We will investigate and contact the owner. If it is empty and not exempt from action, we will use the appropriate levers available to us to bring the property back into use.

If we can reach the owner and they cooperate, we will provide a tailored support offer appropriate to the needs of the property circumstances.

If we cannot reach the owner or they do not cooperate, we will undertake available enforcement options.
