Award categories

The Lambeth Civic Awards recognise the incredible contributions of residents, volunteers, groups and organisations across our borough.

Nominations for the awards are open from 18 December for five weeks and will close at midnight on 25 January 2026.

Anyone in Lambeth can nominate any resident, community group or organisation living, working or operating in the borough for a Civic Award if they can show how they meet the criteria for one (or more) of the seven awards.

This is your opportunity to highlight and celebrate the individuals or organisations that have advanced equity and justice across the following seven categories:

Mayor’s Award for Volunteer & Community Champion

The Mayor’s Award for Volunteer & Community Champion recognises individuals who embody the true spirit of volunteering, community action and leadership. It celebrates those who show remarkable commitment to improving the lives of others, bringing people together, and championing local causes. This award honours those who give their time, energy and skills selflessly to support others, strengthen community connections and make Lambeth a better place for all.

Lambeth Ambition: A Place We Can All Call Home

By giving their time and skills selflessly, these individuals strengthen local networks, foster connections and help improve the quality of life for residents. Their efforts contribute to making Lambeth a borough that people can truly call home, where everyone feels they belong.

Climate and Green Spaces Award

The Climate and Green Spaces award celebrates and recognise work that contributes to tackling the climate crisis or to enhancing the natural environment of parks and green spaces in the borough. Lambeth Council’s Climate Action Plan sets out a vision and 20 goals for our borough to become zero-compatible and climate resilient by 2030.  The council would like to recognise the amazing work that community groups and volunteers do which contributes to these goals, and the work on parks and green spaces which enhance our wellbeing and improve air quality.

Lambeth Ambition: Climate Resilience

This award directly supports the ambition to make Lambeth a climate-resilient borough by 2030, recognising efforts to tackle the climate crisis and enhance green spaces.

Safer Lambeth Award

The Safer Lambeth Award is for local people and organisations who make a positive difference by improving safety across Lambeth.  From street safety to supporting those who experience domestic violence and preventing violence affecting young people this award recognises the important and vital work and projects that community groups do day-in-day-out in their neighbourhoods to make them safer for all.

Lambeth Ambition: One of the Safest Boroughs in London

This ambition is about improving safety across Lambeth, making it a safer place for all residents, which is exactly what this award aims to celebrate.

Arts and Cultural Heritage Award

The Arts and Cultural Heritage Award is an opportunity to celebrate the diverse community cultural organisations that work to shape Lambeth’s unique identity.  Lambeth is rich in examples of cultural activism and artistic expression, from murals to carnival groups, poets to film festivals. The award is for those who have contributed to the arts and heritage scene in Lambeth, inspiring the next generation of artists and cultural leaders, expressing the voices and celebrating the identities of diverse communities in the borough.

Lambeth Ambition: Cultural Vibrancy

Celebrating the arts and cultural heritage aligns with the ambition to maintain and enhance Lambeth’s unique cultural offer, inspiring future generations and providing opportunities for underrepresented groups.

Social Enterprise Award

The Social Enterprise Award is an opportunity to celebrate community enterprises and the outstanding contributions they make to the borough. Across Lambeth, we know there are many social enterprises working hard to provide opportunities and boost growth to benefit their local communities while also driven by values-led missions. Whether it’s because they are part of the growing creative sector, a social enterprise that harnesses young talent or one that responds to community needs, the Social Enterprise Award recognises the entrepreneurs and social enterprises who make a positive difference to our borough.

Lambeth Ambition: Economic Growth and Community Benefit

This award aligns with the ambition to support community enterprises that drive economic growth and local opportunities that benefit local communities, reflecting the values-led missions of these businesses.

Health & Wellbeing Award

The Health and Wellbeing award would like to recognise all the work and care delivered by community organisations in supporting Lambeth residents in their journeys to improving and maintaining healthy lives and increasing resilience and wellbeing.

Many voluntary and community sector organisations have been responding to health and wellbeing needs in the community and offering sporting activities which support improved mental and physical health for people of all ages.

Lambeth Ambition: Health and Wellbeing

Recognising efforts to support mental health and wellbeing aligns with the ambition to ensure residents can lead healthier, happier lives, particularly those facing adverse circumstances.

Empowering Young People Award

The empowering young people award will recognise a Voluntary and Community Sector organisation which has done outstanding work over the past year to provide services for Lambeth’s youngest residents. Lambeth is lucky to have a wealth of community provision for children and young people’s activities. Voluntary and Community Sector groups offer services and activities for all ages ranging from youth hub after-school activities to city farm educational workshops to educational sessions for families about online safety. Community groups offer support for families with English as an Additional Language, spaces for girls to develop their potential, stay & play sessions which can be so important for new parents and children under 5 and many other varied services.

Lambeth Ambition: Collaboration

By fostering partnerships with schools, community organisations, and businesses, Lambeth ensures that young people have access to a wide range of opportunities, aspirations and support networks. This collaborative approach helps create an inspiring, supportive and diverse community for young people.
