What is happening in this area
Lambeth is committed to creating streets and neighbourhoods that are healthy, safe, inclusive, and pleasant. We want to support walking or wheeling, cycling and the use of public transport.
Enabling the community to travel more actively benefits public health and wellbeing. It is part of the Climate Action Plan to become net zero compatible and climate resilient by 2030.
Between 11 April and 14 May 2023, we consulted on three separate connecting projects in the West Dulwich area, to include a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ), Healthy Route 'cycle path' as well as wider street improvements.
Visit the Commonplace consultation pages to find out more about the proposal.
The Council is aware that some motorists are repeatedly driving through traffic filters introduced as part of the West Dulwich Street Improvement scheme.
Driving through the filters is illegal, except where a valid exemption has been authorised. Repeated behaviour of this kind may be based on the assumption that, because there is a statutory challenge to the decision making process, driving offences related to the traffic filters are unenforceable. This assumption is incorrect. The Traffic Management Order for the scheme has been lawfully made and is enforceable until such time as, either the Council decides to suspend it, or a Court rules the Council’s decision making was unlawful.
The current legal challenge against the traffic filters will not be accepted as a reasonable excuse for any contravention of the traffic restrictions or for any non-payment of fines
