17 November 2025 — CPZ update
In August 2025, we advised that after careful consideration, a decision had been made to proceed with the introduction of 2 new CPZs, expected to be 1 December 2025. Further information regarding the timeline for the implementation works and how to purchase permits would follow.
Lambeth Council faces very significant funding challenges. Indeed, councils up and down the country are struggling to balance their books due to soaring demand for statutory services and years of austerity under the previous government.
Lambeth is particularly badly impacted due to the high pressure for temporary accommodation and social care services for vulnerable adults and children. This means we need to save over £99 million over the next few years and need to be open with residents that saving this amount isn’t possible without having an impact on the services and projects that people expect and rely on.
To help stabilise our position, the council is reducing planned borrowing and reviewing all capital expenditure that is not fully funded by external grants or essential for health and safety. This includes investment in roads, parks, and other physical infrastructure - including the Streatham Vale CPZ.
The project is currently paused and will not be implemented in December as previously communicated. This does not mean it will not go ahead in the future, but the spending constraints on the council mean that the scheme will not be implemented in the 2025-26 financial year.
We expect this review to conclude in the coming months and will update you on the outcome and next steps as soon as possible.
