New Lambeth Local Plan

Find information about the new Lambeth Local Plan, including consultations, key dates and documents.

The Local Plan guides how Lambeth will grow and develop in the future. It sets out where new homes, jobs, infrastructure and community facilities should be located. It also includes the planning policies used when planning applications are considered.

The current Lambeth Local Plan was adopted in 2021. By law, Local Plans must be reviewed and updated regularly. We are now preparing a new Local Plan for the borough.

Recent changes to the planning system have introduced a new process for preparing Local Plans. Under the new system, Local Plans must be prepared within 30 months.

There have also been significant changes to the wider planning policy context. A new National Planning Policy Framework was published in August 2026, and the Mayor of London published a new draft London Plan for consultation in July 2026. The new Lambeth Local Plan will need to take these documents into account.

The council has now published the documents required ahead of formal plan preparation, including the:

Scoping Consultation

The Scoping Consultation is now live. This is the first stage of engagement in preparing the new Local Plan.

The Scoping Consultation runs from 1 September to 13 October 2026. It provides an early opportunity to gather views on the issues, challenges and opportunities that the new Local Plan should address, how people wish to be involved and the Character Study.
