On street cycle hangars — for residential use

What is a Cycle Hangar?

A cycle hangar is a secure structure that installs into a standard two metre parking bay by bolting onto the curb. It holds six bikes and takes up the space of half a car.

As of February 2025, we've installed over 600 on street hangars in Lambeth, providing more than 3,600 cycle parking spaces for residents, and we're committed to installing more. Each hangar space costs £30 to rent per year.

This rental service is managed by both Cyclehoop and LockIt Safe.

Suggesting locations for future hangars

Suggest a street to be considered for future hangars

Information from this webform helps us decide new locations for cycle hangars.

Note that we do not individually reply to these location suggestions. Each new location needs to be visited by one of our in-house engineers, after which it is put out for consultation so that residents have an opportunity to give their input.

All proposed locations will be sent to local residents and feedback will be collected online. The design and resident feedback process takes a considerable amount of time.

Once a hangar has been installed, spaces will become available on a first-come first-serve basis.

If the road lies within a Controlled Parking Zone, a further consultation will be needed so that we can apply for a Traffic Order. This allows us to install the cycle hangar in a parking bay or on yellow lines.
