The proposalIt has become apparent that there is an urgent need for a Family Resource Assessment Centre. The proposal is to move the current family contact centre from Kennington (14, White Hart Street, SE11 4EP) to the old Cherry Tree Nursery located at 8 Barston Road, SE27 9HE in Norwood. The old Cherry Tree Nursey will be re-designed to accommodate the proposed Cherry Tree Family Centre. Background information / Purpose of consultationThe current family contact centre is not suitable and not able to meet the current demand. Foster carers are frequently raising issues about a lack of facilities, and the absence of a suitable place for carers to wait while contact is taking place. Parents complain that rooms are too small and that there is not adequate space for children to play. The building is situated in a residential estate with no parking spaces. There is concern that carers’ dissatisfaction will have an impact on their ability to take on placements, resulting in the commissioning of costlier independent provisions. Please give your views on the design by thinking about the layout, how this space will be used (such as the communal space) and comments on the outside area as examples. Design Workshops
We are also carrying out Design workshops in September 2022 (dates to be confirmed) with key stakeholders, focus groups, staff members and service users that will help in defining the final layout and design proposals. These would be shared on the dedicated project webpage.
