Our short breaks contract expires 31 March 2019. We are trying to decide what we do next; what our short breaks service should look like in future. We have an opportunity to create a more exciting short breaks offer.

We could develop a service that more disabled children and young people can access. We could work with more local providers so they are better able to support disabled children and young people. We could provide activities that young people over 14 years could enjoy.

The challenge is working out how we do so without putting pressure on already squeezed council budgets.

We have outlined a number of proposals which set out what the future short breaks service could look like in the information booklet below. An Easy-to-Read version is also available. Accompanying this booklet is a questionnaire, which we invite you to complete to tell us what you think of our proposals.

Alternatively, you may attend a consultation drop-in session where you can find out more about proposals, talk to council staff and parents that have helped us put these proposals together, or pick up paper copies of the information. Details on these sessions are included in our 'How to respond' section below and will be updated throughout the consultation.

We are also holding two pre-booked sessions for providers to hear more about our proposals.

To book your place at one of the provider sessions please email us at engagement@lambeth.gov.uk (please note 'Lambeth Short Stay - Provider' in the subject header).

We will publish and present the findings from this consultation to the Lead Member for Children and Young People by February 2019, who will consider this feedback when making a decision on any proposed changes.
