Calling 999
- As soon as you know there is a fire, evacuate the building and call 999 (calls are free).
- Try to remain calm. Speak clearly and slowly, giving your full address.
- Say what is on fire, for example, a two-storey house or a flat in a block.
- Let them know if anyone is trapped and what room they are in.
- Have people waiting outside the property (if possible) to help the fire service easily locate your home.
- Never go back into your home for personal belongings. Stay outside until the Fire and Rescue Service tell you it is safe to return.
