Annual Electoral Canvass 2026

We contact all residential properties in Lambeth from September as part of the Annual Electoral Canvass. Lambeth’s Electoral Registration Officer must undertake a canvass of all households in the borough each year to ensure that voter details are correct.

British citizens overseas registration renewal

Voter registrations for British Citizens living overseas are now valid for three years. If your registration is due to expire in 2026, you'll need to renew it by 1 November 2026.

How will I know If I need to renew?

From 7 September 2026, Lambeth Electoral Services will contact electors, whose overseas registration is due to expire.

Renewing your application

The easiest way to renew is online: voting if you live abroad.

You'll need the 9-digit access code included in your renewal letter or email.

If you have permanently returned to the UK, you should register at your current UK address instead.

Absent vote renewal requirements for British citizens overseas

Postal and Proxy Voting arrangements are linked to your overseas registration and will also expire on 1 November 2026 unless renewed.

To continue voting by post or proxy, you must take the following action by 1 November 2026:

  • Postal voters must submit a new application at gov.uk/apply-postal-vote
  • Proxy voters must provide a fresh signature, either by uploading it via our webpage or returning it in the pre-paid envelope provided.
  • Please note: If you were granted a proxy vote on or after 1 July 2026, you do not need to refresh your signature.

Failure to reapply for a postal vote or refresh a proxy vote by 1 November 2026 will result in the absent vote arrangement ending, meaning you will no longer be able to vote by your chosen postal or proxy method until a new application has been approved.

Don't miss the deadline

Renew by 1 November 2026. If you miss the deadline, your registration will expire and you will need to reapply.
