Emergency proxy voting
The standard proxy voting deadline has now passed, but you may be able to vote by emergency proxy on medical, employment grounds or voter identification grounds.
Eligibility to apply for an emergency proxy vote
In certain circumstances, where you have an emergency that means you can't vote in person, you can apply for an emergency proxy on the following grounds:
- Medical grounds (such as a medical emergency)
- Employment grounds (such as being called away with work)
- Your photo ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged after the deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate has passed
- You have nominated a proxy to vote on your behalf, and their photo ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged after the deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate has passed
To qualify, the emergency must be something that you weren’t aware of before the standard proxy deadline, which was Wednesday 23 April 2025.
You can find more information on emergency proxy eligibility on The Electoral Commission website.
