Estate renewal

We are working to renew 6 of our housing estates - Central Hill, Cressingham Gardens, Fenwick, Knight’s Walk, South Lambeth and Westbury.

Estate renewal ensures the estate and its homes are fit for the future - with improved energy efficiency and green spaces that create cleaner air and better places to live.

We can achieve this in the following ways:

  • full refurbishment
  • retrofitting
  • demolition and rebuild

Knight’s Walk, South Lambeth and Westbury are currently being renewed. One hundred and five new social rent homes have been built and secure tenants have moved in. Resident homeowners and secure tenants whose homes are to be demolished in the next rebuilding phase will be given priority for the next phase of new homes.

Central Hill, Cressingham Gardens and Fenwick are currently undergoing new options appraisals. This is the process where each of the options for the renewal of an estate is assessed against a number of areas such as finance, sustainability and resident priorities.  

Support for residents

Estate Renewal can be a long process and we know that residents living on these estates need certainty. 

We have set out clear promises to those affected residents - from guarantees of a new home on their estate to free independent advice throughout. 

Residents know their homes and estates, and the success of these estate renewal projects will be dependent on the council working directly with those residents. In consultation with residents, we have developed a new Estate Renewal Resident Engagement Framework that sets out how we will work with affected residents throughout the estate renewal process.
