Voter ID
All polling stations voters must present a form of accepted Voter ID to receive their ballot paper, as per the Elections Act 2022.
What ID you’ll need to show
To vote at a polling station, you must bring one of the following forms of prescribed Voter ID with you on polling day:
- Passport issued by UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, EU/EEA state or Commonwealth country
- Driving licence (or provisional driving licence) issued by UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or EU/EEA state
- Biometric Immigration Document, including eVisas
- Pass Card (ID card bearing Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram)
- Defence Identity Card (Ministry of Defence Form 90)
- HM Armed Forces Veteran Card (Ministry of Defence Form 100), including digital Veteran Cards
- Blue Badge
- National Identity Card issued by an EU/EEA state
- Older Person's Bus Pass
- Disabled Person's Bus Pass
- Oyster 60+ Card
- Freedom Pass
- Voter Authority Certificate
- National Entitlement Card issued by a local authority in Scotland
- 60 and Over Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales
- Disabled Person’s Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales
- Senior SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- Registered Blind SmartPass or Blind Person’s SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- War Disablement SmartPass or War Disabled SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- 60+ SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- Half Fare SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- Electoral Identity Card issued in Northern Ireland
Please note that:
- Only original documents will be accepted.
- Expired photo ID will be permitted as long as the photograph still looks like you.
The name on your ID must be the same name you used to register to vote. Please let us know if you need to change your name on the electoral register
Voter Authority Certificate
If you do not have an accepted form of photo ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate.

The deadline for new Voter Authority Certificate applications for these elections is 5pm, Wednesday 1 July.
