Regeneration activity in Lambeth

Regeneration in Lambeth is about improving the borough’s places — socially, economically and physically.

Waterloo

Unprecedented growth will result in significant change across this world-class area. Its future is strong with 6,000 new jobs and 1,500 new homes anticipated in the coming years.

Alongside development, an ambitious range of infrastructure, public realm and open space programmes are underway:

  • Waterloo Station, the country's busiest railway hub, is planning for growth by 2049 with the preparation of a major master plan
  •  Designs for enhancing pedestrian, cycle and vehicle movements on the ‘IMAX’ roundabout are underway.
  • Lower Marsh Regeneration Programme is set to extend to Westminster Bridge Road.
  • Investment in Millennium Green, Archbishop’s Park and other public places is planned.

Upcoming challenges will be managing construction while ensuring the needs of residents, a growing workforce and ever-increasing visitor numbers are met. The Southbank Business Improvement District now joins the very successful Waterloo Quarter Business Improvement District as a focus for business.
