Advice and support

If you feel anxious or upset by any of the issues talked about in the public hearings or the final report, you can speak to a qualified social worker on Lambeth Council’s dedicated Lambeth Abuse Inquiry Support Helpline.

The helpline is available Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

This helpline service will offer you support, advice and guidance:

  • Help for survivors of abuse in Lambeth to find out more about compensation via the Lambeth Redress scheme, if they haven’t already been offered help.
  • Help for survivors of abuse from other parts of London to find other schemes that offer compensation.
  • Help you contact the right person where there are concerns about professionals or professional conduct connected with abuse in the past.
  • Help put you in contact with the relevant safeguarding authorities for help if you have concerns about child protection or institutional abuse happening now.

Lambeth survivors who are already part of the Redress scheme can get help and support from: Redress@Lambeth.gov.uk or Telephone: 0207 926 4233 Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

If you are in crisis

If you feel you are going to self-harm, or have suicidal thoughts and need help to keep yourself safe, you can choose how to get help:

  • Go to any hospital A&E department or ask for an emergency appointment with your GP
  • If you can’t get to A&E, call 999 and ask for an ambulance.
  • If you need to talk to someone but don’t want to go to A&E, you can call Samaritans 24/7 Freephone: 116 123 or call NHS Direct 111

National Association for People Abused in Childhood

The National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC) is a national charity offering support to adult survivors of all types of childhood abuse, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. NAPAC helpline: 0808 801 0331

Rape Crisis

If you’ve experienced rape, child abuse and/ or any other kind of sexual violence, you can find your nearest Rape Crisis Centre and help from Rape Crisis England and Wales. This national charity is the umbrella body for all Rape Crisis Centres. You can also find information on advocacy and Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) services, counselling and therapeutic services as well as helplines and emotional support.

SurvivorsUK

SurvivorsUK is the longest established service providing support to adult males who have experienced any form of sexual violence. They provide a national web-chat and text-chat support service available seven days per week and counselling (individual and group) from their London premises. They also host a male victim-focused independent sexual violence adviser (ISVA).
