Health Visiting Service
Health visitors provide community health visiting services to all families who have children under the age of 5.
Health visitors offer a range of services both at home and in child health clinics. They provide health promotion advice on immunisation, breastfeeding, healthy weight gain, introducing solid foods, parenting skills, vitamin D supplements, safe sleeping, parental health and wellbeing, home safety and accident prevention.
Complex Health Visiting service
The complex needs health visitors provide a specialist service supporting children under the age of five years with complex health and developmental needs.
The team support families who have children with complex health needs through the process of diagnosis, in implementing therapy programmes, developing strong relationships with children with disabilities and discussing developmental concerns.
The team will provide specific support for these families around:
- sleep routines
- feeding and nutrition
- behaviour management
- delivering training/advice for professionals/colleagues and multi-disciplinary team

School nursing service
When a child starts school at the age of 5 the school nursing service takes over from the health visiting service.
The school nursing service provides a health service to children and young people aged 5 to 19 years old across mainstream schools as well as children and young people educated other than at school (EOTAS).
They offer advice and support about a range of topics, including:
- healthy lifestyles
- dental health
- managing chronic (long-term) health conditions
- emotional health, such as anxiety or changes in behaviour
- sleep
- relationships
- puberty
- sexual health
- risk-taking behaviours, such as drugs and alcohol
We also support families and multi-agency teams to address children's unmet health needs.

Complex needs school nursing
The complex needs school nursing service are a team of children's nurses who support Heron Academy and The Livity Schools in Lambeth.
They support the schools to ensure that students with long-term health conditions can attend education and partake in school activities. We also train school staff to be able to provide healthcare to children in the classroom.
